Independent Living communities usually have an age requirement to become a Resident there. Many require Residents to be at least 60 years of age or older; but, there are exceptions. Other places have a requirement of 55 years of age or older. In most cases, a community that is formally called an "Independent Living Community" or "Senior Living Community" will offer many more Activities on a daily basis, each month. Whereas "55+ Communities or Apartment Complexes" usually have less scheduled activities in an entire month.
Most Independent Living communities have a Dining Services department with trained cooks or even a Chef who prepare THREE (3) meals each day which are served in Restaurant Style Dining. Others offer TWO (2) meals a day; but, they also have apartments with full kitchens in them, to accommodate Residents who want the flexibility of cooking at least one of their own meals. Some Independent Living communities that are considered 55+ Communities, or 55+ Apartment Complexes, usually do not provide regular meals.
Most Independent Living communities offer a variety of apartment sizes to choose from. STUDIO apartments are the smallest and are the most affordable, as a result. ONE BEDROOM apartments are also offered at most IL communities. And, some larger communities will also offer TWO BEDROOM apartments. Also, most communities offer Private Apartments or Studios; but, some are open to Residents with ROOMMATES. MARRIED COUPLES can choose to live in the same apartment or in separate apartments.

Exercise classes, visits from professional entertainers, gardening boxes, games, trivia contests, Bingo, Holiday celebrations, birthday parties, educational classes, Men's Clubs, Bible Study, Religious services, attending performances offsite, Book Clubs, cooking classes, movie nights, dances, ice-cream socials, & so much more!
Independent Living Communities usually offer Weekly Housekeeping and Linen Services. The 55+ Communities may or may not offer Housekeeping and Linen Services. Housekeepers are usually scheduled once per week to deep clean each Resident's apartment. If more frequent cleanings are needed, they are usually offered at an additional fee.
Yes! Maintenance of Air Conditioning Units, Heaters, Plumbing, and other general maintenance needs are offered. Landscaping is also one less thing for tenants to worry about. At most communities, Maintenance Staff will often offer to hang pictures on walls and move heavy furniture for Residents at no extra charge.
