Assistance with ADL's can be provided by unlicensed Caregivers, licensed CNA's, and certified MedTech's. These staff members operate under the management of a Resident Care Coordinator and under the license of an RN. These Assisted Living communities usually have a Physician as the Medical Director who often visit the majority of Residents at the community, for the Residents' convenience. Residents who wish to keep their local Primary Care Physician can do so.
You have options at Assisted Living Communities when it comes to Medication Management. If you need help with keeping your medications organized, administering them at the right times, and re-ordered before they run out, the certified MedTech's, Resident Care Coordinator, the Nurse Manager, and your Physician can coordinate your Medication Management and place the orders with the Pharmacy. And, your medications can be delivered directly to the community, where they are safely protected
Caregivers and CNA's can assist Residents who need help with transferring to and from the toilet, or even full continence care (the changing of briefs and peri care).
Some Seniors need just a little assistance with dressing and grooming. Others need full assistance. Caregivers and CNA's can help.
Some Seniors need just a little reminder to take their showers, while others may need stand-by assistance to be sure that they don't fall while showering. And, others need full shower assistance. The same is true of oral hygiene; the care staff can do reminders for teeth-brushing or full assistance with dental hygiene.
If you need a little assistance with transferring from your bed, chairs, or wheelchairs, certified CNA's are trained in safe transferring techniques.
Whether you need just a little stand-by assistance with walking (with or without the aid of a walker) to and from events and meals, or you require an extra push by wheelchair, helpful Caregivers can get you there!
Residents can remain in their Assisted Living community, even as they advance in care needs. If a Resident needs assistance with feeding themselves, Caregivers will gladly help.
Assisted Living communities serve three meals a day and are usually able to accommodate diabetic meals, vegetarian, gluten-free, low salt, low sugar, mechanical soft, and other requests to accommodate Physician's Orders.
Assisted Living communities usually have cooks, servers, and sometimes a trained Chef, who provide a variety of nutritious meals in a communal setting in a lovely dining room where most of the Residents gather together and socialize during mealtime. If a Resident is sick or recuperating from surgery and cannot eat in the dining area, on any day, the dining services staff or caregivers can deliver the meal(s) to you in the comfort of your apartment/room. Communities may charge a delivery fee.
Regular hydration is such an important part of healthy living. Water, milk, fruit juices, hot chocolate, coffee, tea, and sodas are available throughout the day, at Assisted Living communities.
Snacks such as fruit, chips, cookies, crackers, granola bars, yogurt, and other items are usually available throughout the day at most Assisted Living communities.
Special treats and meals at Holiday events and other special occasions are usually offered at no additional charge.
Assisted Living communities provide a variety of daily activities and special weekly and monthly events for Residents to enjoy. These activities focus on physical, social, cognitive, creative, and spiritual well-being so that Residents can be engaged in activities and events that enrich and fulfill their lives, every day.
Assisted Living communities often schedule outings to concerts, movies, plays, festivals, historical sites, libraries, museums, and other local attractions. Many will include scenic tours to see the turning leaves during the fall and Christmas lights during the holiday season.
Residents are encouraged to participate in activities, exercise classes, craft-making, Bingo, trivia contests, painting lessons, cooking classes, and much more.
Activities or Recreational Directors often plan a monthly party for families to celebrate special events and holidays with their Residents and Staff. Christmas Parties with Santa, Valentine's Dances, St. Patrick's Day Parties, Mardi Gras Celebrations, Easter Egg Hunts, Mother's Day Brunch, Father's Day BBQ's, the Fourth of July Picnics, Halloween Trick-or-Treating, and Thanksgiving Dinner at the communities are extra special occasions that everyone will want to attend.
Activities Directors usually invite professional entertainers to come to the community to perform each month. From country music singers and guitarists to violinists, pianists, Elvis Presley look-alikes, Dean Martin imitators, folk dancers, comedians, mariachi bands, ballroom dancers, barbershop quartets, and more! Residents will love the engaging performers.
Assisted Living communities provide many opportunities for Residents to maintain some of their favorite activities they once enjoyed at their previous homes. Activities Directors reserve transportation on the community van or bus, so that Residents can go on shopping trips to Target, Walmart, Dollar Tree, Home Depot, local shopping centers, and more. Residents are financially responsible for their purchases.
Assisted Living communities staff a Housekeeping team that cleans the entire community, as well as Residents' apartments or rooms.
The Resident Care Coordinator and the Housekeeping Director usually coordinate and schedule a weekly day and time for Housekeeping Staff to deep clean each Resident's apartment or room.
Most Assisted Living communities will provide weekly laundry of linens, such as bedding and towels, as part of the room and board fees. Most communities will charge a separate monthly fee for laundering Residents' clothing.
Assisted Living communities will usually have the Caregivers or Housekeepers wash and dry the linens for each Resident, as part of the room and board rate.
Most Assisted Living communities will charge an extra monthly rate for the Housekeeping or Care Staff to wash and dry and put away Residents' clothing. The average monthly cost for staff to do personal laundry can range from about $50 - $100.
Air conditioning, heating, plumbing, hanging pictures, re-arranging furniture, and other basic maintenance needs are free of charge.
Assisted Living communities offer free Transportation for various Residents' appointments and outings.
Residents can inform the Receptionists if they need assistance making a reservation for transportation to and from any upcoming Doctors' appointments. Sometimes a minimum of 24 hours, 48 hours, or a week advanced notice is required for transportation reservations by the communities van or bus.

You are able to rest assured that you can call on Caregivers, CNA's, and MedTech's anytime during the day or night, for help.
Most Assisted Living communities will have a Beauty Salon and/or Barbershop on site. An outside professional will usually operate the Beauty Salon by appointment. These professionals usually offer the full range of services: shampooing, haircuts, perms, coloring services, trims, straightening, styling, clean shaves for men, blow-outs, and more. Residents usually pay a fee for each service, directly to the professional stylist by cash, check, Venmo, or other payment forms.
If you have a green thumb, you can continue to enjoy planting flowers and vegetables during planting season in the community gardens or garden boxes, which are found at most Assisted Living communities.
Many Assisted Living communities have a Fitness Center. They usually consist of stationary bikes, light to moderate weights, rubber bands, exercise balls, balance bars, and other fitness equipment. Many Residents can regain their muscle strength from Physical Therapy at the in-house Fitness Center.
Almost all Assisted Living communities have a Library, at least a small one. Residents and Visitors can come and enjoy a good book in the cozy Library at their leisure, or they can borrow one to read back in the comfort of their own apartment.
Assisted Living communities commonly have a special Theatre Room or area, where Residents can come to watch scheduled movies during Movie Night, with popcorn and drinks. Sometimes families will reserve the Theatre to have their own Family Movie Night with their Resident.
